Jose Ramirez Jr. has built his identity as a Catoosa High School athlete around consistent effort, discipline, and the willingness to embrace a challenge.
The sophomore competes in football, track, and powerlifting, bringing a physical presence to the football field as a right guard and nose guard. Whether he is preparing for a game, training in the weight room, or managing his school responsibilities, Ramirez is motivated by the opportunity to improve.
“What motivates me is knowing that I can always push myself to be better. I love setting goals, working hard to reach them, and proving to myself that I can do things even when they are challenging. My family, teammates, coaches, and the people who believe in me also motivate me to keep going and never give up.”
Ramirez said his parents and coaches have played major roles in shaping both his athletic approach and his character. Their support has helped him understand that success extends beyond what happens during competition.
“My biggest influences and role models are my parents and my coaches. My parents have always supported me, encouraged me to work hard, and taught me to never give up. My coaches have pushed me to be the best athlete and person I can be. They have taught me the importance of discipline, teamwork, and believing in myself.”
That mindset has helped Ramirez find success across three demanding sports. He believes dedication, effort, and a positive attitude are essential for athletes who want to improve and help their teams.
One of his favorite moments came on the football field, when Catoosa earned a memorable victory over Inola in the Battle of the Ports.
“The highlight moment of my career so far has been beating Inola on our own field during the Battle of the Ports. It feels good to compete in front of our home crowd, play hard as a team, and come away with the win.”
Practice also remains an important part of Ramirez’s development. He said working against teammate Bryan allows him to refine the details of his game.
“The teammate I enjoy working with the most in practice has to be Bryan. He definitely gives me a challenge! Practicing with him helps me work on my technique.”
Away from athletics, Ramirez credits his teachers for helping him navigate challenges and remain encouraged. He also understands the importance of balancing academics with a busy athletic schedule through organization and time management.
As he continues his high school career, Ramirez wants to represent Catoosa with respect, effort and pride. He said wearing the school’s colors means setting an example for others while giving his best for the community that supports him.
