Attending high school in Brooklyn, New York and then earning a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, MaryBeth Cottle may not be from Oklahoma, but it is where she now calls home.
Teaching science for her entire teaching career she started with seventh grade science for three years and then moved onto high school life sciences, which includes biology, forensics, anatomy and physiology, physical science, as well as ACT Prep.
“Teaching is a privilege and I do not remember choosing it,” said Mary. “I do remember my middle school history teacher Mr. Blyn telling me I should consider it and I laughed so hard and said, never. I tried to contact him last year to let him know my never has turned into a decade in the classroom.”
After ten years in the classroom, Mary has come to love just about everything teaching encompasses, but she does have a favorite thing about teaching.
“My favorite part is seeing students excited about what they are doing in class or what they are pursuing in their future,” Mary said.
Mary is not only just busy in the classroom, but she also helps to sponsor the National Honor Society as well as helping with STUCO.
In her free time, you can catch Mary spending the day outside, paddle boarding, kayaking, or even cycling. During her summer breaks she enjoys traveling with her family as well. Her family is made up of her husband of over 27 years and their five children. Two of those five have followed in their mother’s footsteps and are currently teachers as well.
