Growing up watching her sister play volleyball in high school, Carmen Reese has had a love for the game her entire life.
“I was so fascinated with the game that I knew I was going to play when I was older,” Carmen said.
Now in her senior year of high school at Catoosa, Carmen has played just about every position when it comes to volleyball. Mainly playing defense now you will occasionally see her playing setter and hitter as well.
“My favorite thing about volleyball is the adrenaline I get when playing and the exciting things that happen when me and my team work together and make a fun play,” Carmen said.
Playing volleyball since she was old enough to start club ball Carmen has many wonderful memories she gets to look back on. Her favorite memory is from the Verdigris varsity tournament’s final game last year.
“It was my first tournament playing libero, I was so excited to show everyone my talent,” Carmen said. “We had hustled for every ball we possibly could, we even went to three sets, and boom we had won the game. That night ended with a team picture and our first place medal.”
Being a senior student-athlete and leader means all eyes on you.
“Knowing that people look up to me makes me even more motivated to try my hardest,” Carmen said.
The person who started her love for volleyball is also one of her biggest inspirations.
“My sister is the person that inspired me to start playing the sport and still inspires me today,” said Carmen. “She uses her years of playing to help teach and support me.”
After high school Carmen has plans on continuing her love for volleyball at the collegiate level while studying business.
In her free time Carmen enjoys spending it with her friends, enjoying their last moments of high school together.
