VYPE Magazine editor Brad Heath caught up with Catoosa cheer coach Erin Davis.
VYPE: Coach what was this team like to coach this year?
Davis: This team is a cheer coach’s dream! When I say that, I’m not talking about how they can all do back tucks or have the highest skill levels involved in cheer; I’m talking about the simple, yet most important things. They have the attitude and heart for cheer that all coach’s desire. Each one of these girls understands how to handle constructive criticism from their peers and coaches.
VYPE: Knowing what to say and when to say it is a mark of good coaching. How does your squad handle being coached and pushed to the edge?
Davis: If there is something that needs to be worked on, each one will put her heart and soul into being the best- not just for herself, but for her team. They’re all coachable, and I’d take an athlete with heart over one with skill any day, and I have an entire team of those kids!
VYPE: What is the chemistry like this season?
Davis: This team has become a family in a short amount of time. They have each other’s backs, and they truly care about one another. They check on each other, take time out of their days to help those who need it, and offer rides, money, etc. to those in need. I feel truly blessed to be able to coach these girls, and I know my assistant coach feels the same way!
