Catoosa’s Titus Miller reaches milestone – Presented by Steve Swann State Farm

Catoosa junior Titus Miller recently reached a milestone when he surpassed 1,000 points for his career.

The 6-foot-6 guard/forward, considered one of the top juniors in the state, is averaging 22.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Indians, who are 18-5 overall and ranked 12th in Class 4A under head coach Evan Drake.

Miller averaged 15 points and 6.5 rebounds as a sophomore and received his first college offer from Oklahoma City University.

How long have you played basketball?

Titus: I’ve been playing basketball since I was 11 years old, and I’ve been playing summer basketball for four years.

Do you play any other sports?

Titus: I’ve only just played basketball, but after this season I plan on doing track as well.

How do you balance your time between sports and academics or other activities?

Titus: The way I manage academics, basketball, and my job, is that I typically do workouts for basketball before school, then I try to get all my school work done during the school day that way I am not left with extra work to do afterwards, and I work a couple days a week after I get out of practice.

What professional athlete (college or pro) do you model your game after and why?

Titus: I would say I model my game after Kevin Durant. Growing up, I was an OKC fan and loved watching him play. I also have a similar build to him, so I try to do similar things as he does.

What is your favorite drill to do in training and why?

Titus: My favorite drill to do in training would probably have to be playing 1-on-1. It gives you the opportunity to practice moves, finish against defenders, and helps you get in-game reps.

What are your strengths and what have you improved on the most over the course of your high school career?

Titus: I would say my strengths are my athleticism, finishing, and shooting. I believe the thing I have improved on the most over my high school career would be my ball handling. I went from being scared to dribble against defenses, to now being able to dribble in any situation, and I am still working to improve my dribbling constantly.

What are your thoughts on the season so far from both an individual and team standpoint?

Titus: Our season is going pretty good I would say, while we’re not meeting the expectations we set for ourselves with two losses that we could have won, I think we have a team that could definitely do great things in the playoffs, and possibly make a run at a state title. As far as my individual season is going, I would say I am playing at the best I have played in my life, and I am still continuing to improve on the things I struggle with to become even better.

What’s your most memorable basketball moment during your high school career?

Titus: My most memorable moment would have to be my first 30 point game. It was a great game that we won in overtime, while I had 33 points and 15 rebounds.

What do you love most about being a student-athlete at your school and why?

Titus: The best thing about being a student-athlete at Catoosa high, is that we have very supportive teachers, great coaches, and students that support all of our sports. I also believe we have a great athletic director that loves coming to our games and supporting us with everything.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? What are some of your hobbies?

Titus: The thing I do in my free time is spend time with my girlfriend, my family, and my friends. I also love to be around people and have a good time. While I don’t have many hobbies, I really enjoy bowling.

Any achievements (sports, academics, or life) over your career you want to mention? Do you know any of your stats from this season or career stats that stand out?

Titus: The achievements that stand out to me the most is when I was awarded MVP of the Alva Invitational Tournament, and another achievement is being first team all-conference my first year of varsity basketball.

What qualities do you think make someone a good teammate or leader?

Titus: Things that make someone a good leader is being outspoken and holding people accountable, while also setting an example by the actions he makes on and off the court.

What are your plans after high school (college, work, etc)?

Titus: After high school I am planning on playing college basketball, while getting a degree in either computer science or engineering. After getting my degree I plan on getting a job in one of those careers.
