The sound of a volleyball striking the floor, the rush of a long rally, and the shared energy of a close match are all part of what keeps Addison Edwards coming back to the court. A junior at Catoosa High School, Edwards has developed a deep appreciation for volleyball and the challenges that come with competing as part of a team.
“The love for the sport and the thrill the sport gives me” are what motivate Edwards, who continues to build confidence through every practice, match, and club season.
Edwards credits club volleyball with helping her take important steps as a player. Competing for Aces Volleyball Club in Catoosa has given her the opportunity to work with coaches who challenge and support every athlete.
“Playing club with amazing coaches has helped me so much with being more confident and getting out of my comfort zone on the court,” Edwards said. “Club has been the biggest factor in success; it shows you have to be a team with people you’ve probably never met.”
Her sister, Kelcie Ginn, has been one of Edwards’ most meaningful role models. She also admires U.S. Olympic gold medalist Jordyn Poulter for the determination she showed after a major knee injury.
“My sister has always been the person I have looked up to; she has always been a constant no matter what,” Edwards said.
One of Edwards’ favorite memories came during last season’s regional tournament.
“Last year at regionals, playing with an amazing team who put their all on the court and being around people who are so passionate about the sport,” Edwards said.
Edwards enjoys the competitive atmosphere of matches against Verdigris, where she often sees familiar faces from club volleyball. She also values the encouragement she receives from teammate Arianna and recognizes Olivia Wilson as an underappreciated player because of her effort and willingness to pursue every ball.
Away from athletics, Edwards works to stay on top of schoolwork despite a demanding schedule. She is especially grateful for Mrs. Bridget Tognazzini, whose care for students has made a lasting impact.
