Catoosa’s Dalaney Sakewicz
VYPE: As an incoming freshman, what are you looking forward to the most this season?
Dalaney Sakewicz: I am excited to learn from the upperclassmen and improve my game throughout the year. I look forward to working together with my team and to setting and achieving personal goals.
VYPE: We hear you will play SS, what do you love about that position?
DS: I enjoy playing shortstop because it challenges me and requires a wide range of skills. As a shortstop, I always have a job to do, whether it’s communicating with teammates or fielding ground balls, pop-ups, cutoffs, and making double plays.
VYPE: What do you feel is the biggest adjustment you must make at the varsity level?
DS: Moving up to varsity softball means facing increased intensity and stronger competition. Varsity games carry more weight, and I want to represent our school by competing at this level.
VYPE: Who do you play summer club ball for and does that help prepare you for school ball?
DS: For the past several years, I have played with the Rawling Tigers organization. They focused on providing the best competition to help our team grow as softball players, preparing us to handle stressful situations and be mentally ready for varsity softball.
VYPE: Who inspires you? On or off the field. Explain.
DS: My mom and dad are my biggest supporters, and they are fully dedicated to my success. They’ve invested countless hours into my development as a softball player, starting with T-ball and continuing up to the present. Their hard work ensures that I have the opportunities I need to excel not just in softball, but also in becoming a strong, independent adult.
VYPE: Do you have any superstitions?
DS: I usually do not eat before games. The only superstition I have is wearing my hair in bubble braids for every game.
VYPE: Will you belong to any clubs or groups at school? Play any other sports?
DS: I have been a part of the National Junior Honor Society for three years. As a freshman this year, I am excited to explore the various clubs and groups our high school has to offer.
VYPE: What number will you wear and is there a story or reason behind wearing that number?
DS: I have always worn the #5 and have consistently chosen #5 for all my competitive teams. I would love to represent #5 during my high school career, but I understand that as a freshman, I may have to wear any number assigned to me. Regardless, I will wear it with pride for Catoosa.
VYPE: What are your expectations for yourself and the team this season?
DS: I have very high expectations for myself. I spend a lot of time working on strengthening my game outside of practice. I know with hard work, our team can work together and compete.
